Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, creative, and passionate Preschool Teacher to lead a dynamic classroom of 4 and 5-year-old learners. This role requires a nurturing educator who can develop engaging lesson plans, foster students' social-emotional growth, and collaborate effectively with families and colleagues. The teacher will play an integral part in creating a safe, stimulating learning environment while following state standards and aligning with the school’s mission of supporting whole-child development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree in Child Development or Early Childhood education (or equivalent experience) is recommended. High School degree required

  • Previous experience teaching preschool-aged children, with a preference for work in a 5-year-old classroom.

  • Strong understanding of child development, social-emotional learning, and early childhood education best practices.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with families, co-teachers, and administrators.

  • The ability to handle classroom management in a calm, nurturing, and effective manner.

  • Proficiency with technology, including tools like Brightwheel or similar communication/attendance platforms.

  • Creativity, patience, and enthusiasm for working with young learners.

Responsibilities to the Classroom

  • Prepare yearly lesson plans and a comprehensive calendar based on state standards.

  • Plan and create structured, themed units (lasting 2–3 weeks) in collaboration with a co-teacher, ensuring social, emotional, and cognitive learning elements are integrated.

  • Maintain and prepare a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment conducive to learning.

  • Ensure materials and resources needed for daily lessons are ready and aligned with state early childhood standards.

Responsibilities to Students

  • Design and implement a creative and engaging curriculum tailored to young learners.

  • Actively encourage student participation and foster meaningful conversations to ignite curiosity and learning.

  • Provide support and encouragement for children facing challenges, whether academic, emotional, or social.

  • Facilitate craft activities and hands-on learning experiences that promote imagination and creativity.

  • Oversee children’s safety in all settings, including the classroom, playground, and muscle room.

  • Plan and guide enriching field trips to expand classroom learning.

  • Conduct and interpret assessments (e.g., ASQ and TSS), using results to guide student development.

Responsibilities to Parents

  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents via phone calls, emails, notes, and face-to-face interactions.

  • Assist with family-oriented events such as class parties, special programs (e.g., Party Like a Preschooler and the moving-up ceremony).

  • Attend events like “Meet the Teacher” and registration evenings, answering questions and ensuring smooth communication with families.

  • Provide families with monthly classroom calendars that detail upcoming themes and activities.

  • Use Brightwheel software for parent communication, attendance tracking, and updates on student progress.

Responsibilities to the Administrator

  • Keep student files organized, accurate, and up to date.

  • Manage medications and any required forms for student health and safety.

  • Promptly communicate concerns, suggestions, or important issues to the administrator (e.g., injuries, major illnesses, or parent concerns).

  • Provide clear and timely updates to administrators on any significant matters related to the classroom or child safety.

Additional Information for New Hires

  • Contract includes approximately 90 teaching days (September–May).

  • Summer work involves approximately 20 additional days, focusing on preparations for the new school year (mostly in May and August).

  • Availability for occasional evening events with families, programs, and board meetings.

  • Completion of 4 required health classes renewed every 2-3 years and at least 6 hours of professional development annually.

  • This is a part-time position with no health benefits. We do provide paid personal time and school vacations like Christmas and Spring Break. We also pay for professional development and health class training.
